Job Description

Sports Centre Duty ManagerLocation: CambridgeSalary: £27,000 - £29,000 per annum (Based on qualifications and experience)The School Cambridge is one of the country’s leading independent co-educational day schools for children aged 3-18, who attend either the Pelican, Prep or Upper.Their aim is to be a leading employer of choice. This means they strive to be a school where staff say they are proud and excited to work, and feel valued, respected and motivated.The RoleThe Sports Centre Duty Manager will be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective daily management and operation of the swimming pool, climbing wall and sports hall within The Perse School Sports Centre. Particular focus will be on ensuring that thefacilities are appropriately maintained, staffed and managed ensuring an effective and efficient service is provided for the benefit of the School and outside users.The Sports Centre Duty Manager will work alongside the Sports Centre Manager to assist in the delivery of a learn to swim programme, and help coordinate a programme of other sports hiringsKey Responsibilities General Duties:

  • To act as the shift lead to ensure all tasks are carried out in a timely and effective manner
  • To carry out lifeguard duties to ensure the safety, welfare, supervision and control of all bathers or users of the swimming pool during designated sessions, and dealing with emergencies should they arise
  • To set up and de-rig areas and equipment in accordance with the daily programmes, checking regularly for amendments with planned activities and taking action accordingly
  • To ensure that sports areas, teaching spaces, communal and access areas are prepared, safe and effective for the programme
  • To supervise, intervene and promote safe practices and behaviours within the Sports Centre facilities
  • To process financial transactions, take bookings and reconcile daily income in line with The Perse Sports Centre procedures
  • To cover departmental duties including reception as and when required
  • To maintain the NPLQ qualification by attending regular onsite training and any other mandatory training or meeting as required for the post
  • Act as deputy in the absence of the Sports Centre Manager, ensuring continuous service delivery and accountability
Skills and QualificationsQualifications and Experience:
  • Management experience in a relevant role, including management of teams of staff
  • Experience working in a leisure environment
  • Experience managing third party use of facilities
  • Experience in providing support to the senior staff
  • Current and valid National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
  • Pool Plant Operators Licence
  • First Aid at Work certificate
  • Experience in setting clear direction for others
  • Ability to recommend and assist in setting up and improving procedures
