Job Description

My client is based in a primary school in Hillingdon and is looking for an experienced Caretaker to help maintain their school on a temporary basis.

  • Contract: Temporary (8th July - 26th July, with potential additional work in August).
  • Location: Hillingdon.
  • Working Hours: 9.30am - 17.30pm(30 minutes for lunch).
  • Salary: £12-£14 per hour depending on experience.
We are seeking a dedicated Caretaker to join our team for a temporary period during the summer. The successful candidate will be supported by our part-time Premises Assistant and will be responsible for a variety of tasks to ensure the smooth operation ofour school environment. Day to Day of the role:
  • Assist in the lunch-hall, including setting up and packing away tables and benches, clearing trays, emptying bins, and managing spillages.
  • Set up for school events such as end-of-term assemblies.
  • Conduct fire safety checks, ensuring all alarms, emergency lighting, evacuation routes, and fire doors are in proper working order.
  • Perform cleaning duties as required, including unblocking toilets and cleaning spillages, including bodily fluids.
  • Manage the security of the premises, including gate duties and alarm systems.
  • Liaise with the cleaning supervisor to coordinate outsourced cleaning services.
  • Supervise contractors on-site and ensure work is completed to standards.
  • Carry out minor repairs and maintenance tasks as needed.
  • The role includes a variety of tasks that contribute to the maintenance and safety of the school environment.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Must have an Enhanced DBS (children’s workforce) and barred list check in place.
  • Comfortable working around primary school-aged pupils.
  • Experience in a similar caretaker or facilities role is preferred.
  • Knowledge of fire safety checks and building security measures.
  • Ability to perform cleaning and minor repair tasks.
  • Good communication skills to liaise with staff, contractors, and the cleaning supervisor.
  • Must be available for an induction/handover with our Premises Manager and to meet the Operations Manager prior to commencement.
