We are seeking an experienced Head Gardener to lead a small team at a prestigious private estate in Honiton, Devon. The estate boasts formal gardens, parklands, a small lake, and spans 60 acres of beautiful, mature landscape. The Head Gardener will be responsiblefor managing and overseeing all horticultural activities to ensure the estate is well cared for.The position is live out, so you will need to reside within commutable distance. There is some flexibility to live in during the week if required.Responsibilities:• Lead and manage a team of gardeners, including a caretaker, one full-time apprentice, one part-time apprentice, and part-time ad hoc support.• Develop and implement garden maintenance schedules and planting schemes.• Ensure the highest standards of horticultural practice are maintained across the estate.• Oversee the maintenance of formal gardens, parklands, and the small lake.• Manage the gardens budget and resources efficiently.• Train and mentor apprentices and other gardening staff.• Ensure all gardening activities comply with health and safety regulations.• Coordinate with the estate management on various projects and requirements.Requirements:• Proven experience in a similar role on a private estate.• Ideally, possess RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) qualifications.• Full UK drivers licence.• Demonstrated longevity in previous roles.• Excellent, checkable references.• Strong leadership and team management skills.• Passionate about horticulture and maintaining high standards.• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.• Flexible and adaptable approach to work.Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am - 5pm (with flexibility as required)Start Date: ASAPRef: SB1526
