Job Description

The Company

  • The company are a leading distributor of plastic pallets and boxes in the UK, who are looking for a Business Development Manager to join their team.

The role of the Business Development Manager:
  • The Business Development Manager who will be working closely with the Internal Sales Team, and the Directors. The successful applicant will be responsible for visiting current clients and identifying and developing new potential clients from the Midlandsand North of England.
  • It is envisaged that ultimately most of the week would be spent developing relationships across a range of clients in diverse industries from food, retail, ecommerce, logistics and distribution, pharma, healthcare, drinks and FMCG manufacturing, and developingincreased sales. There are some accounts to be allocated and large database of enquiries and contacts to follow up on, the main focus of this role will be on developing new business opportunities in vertical where repeat orders are infrequent. There will bea requirement to visit the office for 2 days every 3 weeks.
  • This role will be suited to someone with some automated factory experience who is as comfortable talking forklifts and racking on the factory floor as they are in a board room presentation. A personable and enthusiastic Team Worker with some materials handlingor food packaging experience is ideal.
Key Responsibility of the Business Development Manager:
  • Visiting current and prospective clients throughout the UK.
  • Discussing clients’ product requirements and advising which products would suit their application.
  • Preparing and sending quotes by email and post, using company programs.
  • Recording all enquiries, meetings etc. on database, throughout the sales process.
  • Following up quotations and converting the enquiry to an order.
  • Negotiating prices and contracts as required, within the set constraints.
  • Concentrating on the company’s USPs on product range, stock availability and fast delivery - which are unique in the sector.
  • Promoting the company’s responsible position in the marketplace.
  • Developing further prospective clients through cross selling within sites, companies and industries - by asking for referrals and by drop in visits when attending meetings.
  • Liaising with Sales Representatives from European Suppliers and on occasion, where technical support is required by clients, carrying out joint visits in the UK with the suppliers.
  • Attending and assisting with the company’s attendance at occasional exhibitions.
Key Criteria:
  • The successful applicant will need to have a minimum of 5 years face-to-face, B2B sales experience selling related products, with a highly professional presentation and a positive can-do attitude.
  • Educated to degree level minimum, and having attended external sales training courses, applicants will need a clean driving licence.
  • Extensive knowledge of MS Office programs plus a good understanding of IT is required.
  • Great commercial awareness and experience of contract negotiations at the highest levels.
Salary:
  • Up to £55,000 depending on experience plus annual bonus, car allowance and company benefits
