Job Description

The RoleAn opportunity has arisen for an experienced Insurance and Non-Bank Financial Credit Analyst to join M&Gs Financials Credit Research team. The team, one of the largest and most experienced credit research teams in Europe, provides independent, actionable insightsto fund managers in order to aid portfolio construction. An Insurance and Non-Bank FinancialCredit Analyst is responsible for primary coverage of debt securities across the capital structure for a portfolio of banks in multiple regions. This involves assessing the fundamentals of each issuer, the banking and regulatorysystems in which they operate, the relative value of their debt securities, and their ESG credentials. Analysts are required to communicate their views to portfolio managers and other team members in a clear and timely manner, and also support the Financialsand broader M&G team on various ad hoc projects. The analyst may also be required to take part in committees regarding private and alternative investments. Key Responsibilities

  • Assessing the creditworthiness of Insurance and Non-Bank Financial Companiesand their debt instruments. This will entail credit analysis, financial modelling, documentation reviews, ESG assessments, meeting issuers and assigning in-house credit ratingsand valuations.
  • Working with colleagues to form relative views on credits across the universe of financials which the team covers.
  • Monitoring the existing portfolio of holdings, with the aim of identifying deteriorating credits and recommending appropriate trading strategies.
  • Tracking pricing levels and identifying attractive investment opportunities within the countries and issuers covered.
  • Building and maintaining working relationships with key stakeholders from across the business, including fund management teams
  • Helping junior team members to develop knowledge and skills to become self-reliant analysts in future
  • Work with colleagues in private and alternative credit teams to contribute to analysis and take part in investment committess
  • Work with colleagues in the ESG team to identify ESG-related issues for companies and the industries in which they operate
  • Supporting various projects across research and other M&G teams, and helping maintain and build team systems, models, processes and databases.
Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Strong fundamental credit analysis skills with respect to Insurance and Non-Bank Financial Companies
  • The ability to assess the relevant investment risks of specific instruments from their documentation and other publicly available information
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks (particularly Europe and the UK), accounting practices, and current regulatory concerns and constraints
  • Knowledge relating to the industry, competitors, drivers and risks.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal: fluency in English is a requirement, while a good working knowledge of another language would be helpful
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, but also to work independently and without direct supervision
  • Understanding of pricing and relative value analysis, and the ability to make and explain credit investment recommendations to fund managers
  • High integrity and strong interpersonal skills
  • Highly organised and able to thrive in a time-pressured role
  • CFA or Accountancy qualifications desirable
