Our pupils and students have awide range of needs, including difficulties with communication, learning,physical and sensory development as well as medical and care needs. Allpupilsand students have either severe or profound learning difficulties and many alsohave a diagnosis of autism. Classes are needs led and pupils and studentsfollow personalised learning journeys along different curriculum pathways,depending on their individualneeds. Whilst experience of working in aspecial school would be an advantage, it is not essential. We provide all staffwith a full week of induction training, which includes Moving and Handling,Makaton, Pool Evacuation, Behaviour and Safeguarding Training.We are committedto providing aspirational outcomes for all our students and we will provideregular specialist training for all staff, throughout their careers at Foreland Fields School.Essential training for Teaching Assistants takes place on alternate Thursdaysbetween2pm and 4.45pm and all staff are required to attend these as well as 5INSET days per year. This post is for 30.75 hours perweek and will be temporary for 1 year in the first instance. However, there arefrequently opportunities for successful Teaching Assistantsto extend theircontracts. Candidates must be qualified to atleast GCSE Grade C or above in both English and maths or equivalent Level 2Qualification so as to undertake essential record keeping. Having BSL (BritishSign Language) would be highly desirable asthis post will be based in ourtotal communication class, using BSL.
